Griendling designed and sculptured Hammering Hank Aaron, Green Bay Packer Great Bart Starr, Coach "Bear" Bryant, Legendary Joe Louis, the Olympian Jesse Owen and the "Voice of the Yankees" Mel Allen.
Commissioned by 1220 Exhibits of Nashville, Tennessee, Griendling captured the spirit and talents of some of Alabama's most famous sports figures.
After determining the goals of the museum and the 1220 design staff, Griendling began the sculpturing process.
To assist in accuracy, the artist made actual body reference casts from Hank Aaron, Bart Starr and Mel Allen.
